About:

I am an Associate Member of the Pastel Society of America.

I trained as a technical and Scientific Illustrator, having now freed myself of the technical preciseness of a photo realistic painting I now paint expressively and creatively, producing paintings that are based on feeling, light, energy and movement. I have a love and passion for weather and landscapes and most of my paintings are subjects that have that connection for me. I think that one can paint the same scene over and over again as light and weather change the subject continuously.

I love painting skies and think they are the key to a great landscape. I have a fascination for storms and extreme weather, whether that is a sunrise at -20 degrees in winter, a snow storm, a stunning sunset or a growing supercell in the height of summer, these are the key elements to my painting. I really am intrigued by skies and have studied them in some detail having gone to great lengths studying a little meteorology and taking to the sky in a light aircraft to get even more information about their three dimensional depth. Clouds are constantly growing, dissipating, moving and changing colour and this understanding helps me paint them more authentically.

I like to understand my subject, have a connection with it, a love for it and I really do study this carefully. As I develop as an artist, I find myself becoming more abstract with my work thinking more about composition, light and the balance of shapes, preferring to eliminate all the detail.

The reasons why I think Unison pastels are amazing. The consistency if just perfect, not too soft and not too hard, Unison have really thought hard when it comes to this issue and I seriously can’t manage without them in my Studio. They also have a fabulous range of extra darks which I cannot find in other brands and it’s the dark that really add something special to my work.

My journey is continuously creative, exciting and inspirational as I travel the world developing new skills and introducing new techniques.

I use Facebook, Instagram and YouTube (more than 12,000 subscribers and over 1.2 million views).

Colour Chart Guidance

We believe the colours in our web based colour chart are a faithful representation of our pastel range. But with any colours portrayed on the internet, there’s a whole heap of variables which mean that what you see, may not be what we see. That said, there’s some things that can be done to mitigate some of the variance.

Mobile phone and tablet screens tend to be pretty good for colour, so they’re always worth using, when viewing our colour chart.

We hate to say it, but cheaper computer displays, including laptops, can be rather hit and miss, in both colour and contrast, so they might not reveal the depth of the colour, as well as the true tone.

If you’re really keen on getting your computer up to speed on colour representation, you can use a calibration device to reach your display's fullest potential.

With all that said, if you think we’re way off the mark with any of the colours then, by all means let us know, and we’ll give it another shot.
